Old growth cedar stump

Even intact stumps of old growth trees are no longer common on Brownsville Hill. This one was probably was cut much later than when the slopes were first logged off.

John Robson, later Premier, was the first ‘axe-man’ on this side of the Fraser from New Westminster, clearing his claim that later fell to Ebenezer Brown.

Loggers built ditches on the flats and trestles on the slopes. James Murphy logged here and later farmed at the base of the hill on Scott Road.

Old growth cedar stump, about 3 meters tall, with spring-board notches.
