Fraser River Ferry Surrey–Masters & Crew

February 21, 2012

This table lists some information about the Captains and crew of the ferry steamer Surrey that plied between New Westminster and South Westminster from 1891 to 1904.  The Surrey was a doubled-ended catamaran with a central paddle-wheel. Fully equipped to serve as a fire-boat and an ice-breaker, she was of great service in both capacities.  Her career spanned the transition from horse-drawn wagons to the automobile, connecting a rural hinterland with the market town of New Westminster.  The Surrey was retired from local service by the City of New Westminster in 1904 following the opening of the Fraser River Bridge.  See previous posts.

Short biographies of the Captains follow in separate posts.
