July 17, 2015

Colonist Printing & Publishing Co - Victoria BC - logo 1895The British Colonist newspaper, first published at Victoria, Vancouver Island in  1858, is an indispensable resource for researching British Columbia history.

As late as 1895 the newspaper claimed to have the largest circulation in the province.  It published a Daily and a Weekly, 16-page, 6-column edition.

The firm also did “Lithographing, Engraving, Embossing, Book, Job and Label Printing, in the best style of the Art.”

The company logo for The Colonist, shown, bears a striking similarity to that the later trademark for Coca-Cola.

The historical newspaper can be searched online at The British Colonist Online Edition.
