Fraser Valley and Whatcom County Highways Map, 1925

January 31, 2016

This is a portion of a much larger map titled South Western Districts  published by the Province of British Columbia in 1925. The full map shows the entire route of the Pacific Highway from California through Oregon and Washington State to BC. It serves as an early tourist travel map.

The portion shown here shows the Pacific Highway from Brownsville BC to Bellingham WA and includes the municipalities of Surrey, Langley and Matsqui (Abbotsford), as well as towns in Whatcom County.

The roads depicted with bumps on the route-lines are paved roads.

North of the US border only the section north to the Yale Road (Inter-Provincial Highway) and westward to the Fraser River Bridge was paved.

The map shows a preponderance of place-names in the Fraser Valley derived from railway stations.
